Literally, the word sandwich means "Sand Village," after the hamlet presided over by the
4th Earl of Sandwich in England. But, a healthy sandwich from Andronico's doesn't have to
taste like you're eating sand. In fact, we recommend picking up a sandwich here and taking
it on the go for a picnic on the beach--or back to your office, which is almost like the
beach.
Healthy Sandwich Builder: The best part about sandwiches is that they were made to be
personalized, well-balanced and convenient. Here's our go-to sandwich, The Pongo: Multi-
grain bread (2 slices), Organic sliced Turkey Breast (4 slices) or Lean Chicken Breast, tomato (2 slices), spinach (7 leaves), onion (1 slice), orange pepper (3 strips), banana pepper (5 pieces), with lean provolone cheese (1 slice)-- all toasted in the panini maker with a touch of extra virgin olive oil and vinegar on top. For you, here are some tips:
-Step 1: Pick a bread that is whole grain; (try whole oat, or gluten free from Udi's).
-Step 2: Go for lean meat with fewer preservatives like organic chicken, turkey or salmon.
-Step 3: Load up with great fresh vegetables with different colors, including at least one
green.
-Step 4: Add kick with banana peppers, jalapenos, onions and
vinegar, instead of salty condiments.
-Step 5: If you like some added smoothness try low fat cheeses like provolone or mozzarella and/ or some extra virgin olive. Put it on the outside of the sandwich, so your tongue can feel it (that way, you won't need to slather it onto the sandwich on the inside, where it gets hidden).
Now, that's a sandwich. One that will taste awesome, and leave you feeling awesome.
